how to become an activist

“A true revolutionary is guided by great feelings of love.”

Sustainability, a concept that usually only infers “recycling” to most people, is a complex combination of social sciences, environmental sciences, economics, climatology…just to name a few.

Inequities throughout the world, power imbalances, wage gaps, child labor, family planning, resource stealing, and the lasting effects of colonization are oppressing humans throughout the world.

As environmentalists and students, we must realize that the fight for human rights and equity requires involvement of any kind. Professor Shevack, a long-time activist, stresses that we all have the time to contribute and fight for causes we believe in. It is one thing to articulate and describe the issues that our society is plagued with, but acting on them and attempting to initiate change is another. For those who have been guided by love and empathy for human rights/animal rights/environmentalism, becoming an active member in the change can fulfill your life, according to Shevack.

If the plight of the environmental resonates within you, act on it. If the senseless murder of black people in our nation angers you, act on it. If animal testing, euthanasia, and abuse disgusts you, act on it.
